sketch studies from people watching at pike place market (folks in Seattle really like their layers)
trendy Marceline, sketched with brush pen & copics while watching Adventure Time… I really love that show! :>
pentel pocket brush pen warm-up
finally bought a scanner to replace my old one that broke… here is a sketchbook scan to celebrate!
You Don’t Scare Me, lunchtime sketch of a story idea… I hate when people use intimidation to get their way!
today’s warm-up, gotta get back into drawing classical portraits! inspired by some really pretty Victorian cameos I saw on display in a store window :)
just found out I can’t post any work art for now… so here are some cave/mountain lunchtime sketches! this is the most relaxing subject matter for me.
here’s another study, as i really need catch up on posting art! i learned this really useful coloring trick (using the photoshop “clipping mask”) while i was participating in the Motivarti mentorship program with the supremely talented Victoria Ying. she taught me all kinds of things about art and the animation industry, and i wouldn’t be where i am today without her.
anyway, i do highly recommend Motivarti if you’re looking for a really neat, personalized art mentorship. the mentor roster is pretty incredible; lots of artists from Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc. i learned a bunch, and even got a job out of the whole experience! :)
ack, i’ve been gone for far too long from the internet! :< long story short, I got caught up with working too many jobs in 2012 - game art, illustration, even worked for a while as a photographer… now I’ve just accepted a full-time job as a Game Artist in Seattle. moving across the country is going to be crazy, but i’m excited! i’ll get back into the groove of posting sketches as soon as i’m settled in.
anyway, here are some hoighty-toighty characters…sketching with this ‘old quill’ line style is like comfort food to me :D
30 min b&w warm-up from this morning
for someone who asked, this was painted with Painter’s soft pastel brushes.
prompted by several comments in my ask box: here’s what Kim Pine has to say about my failure to include her in this artwork. (I’d say I based her design more on the film version than the comic?) my apologies, Kim Pine!
also WOW, I can’t believe how many times that Girlfriends vs. the World print got reblogged!! and people were so great about including credits/links too, that just makes me really happy. thanks to all you groovy tumblrites who reblog with artist credit, I just got offered two art gigs from that image! you guys really made my day. :]
some lines for a Scott Pilgrim Girlfriends print which I’ll color this weekend! originally I was going to include the title character, but then I remembered how he was a douchey loser who cheated on his too-good-for-him girlfriends for 99% of the movie… so now it’s just the girlfriends. because they’re fierce like that~ 8D
here’s a fun little portrait of the lovely Adora Levin that I was commissioned to draw for the Adora Project. I highly recommend checking out www.growababy.com for all the awesome artist contributions to this project!
found this old character sketch sheet for a comic project, and threw some colors over it… this loose inking style is far too much fun! :>
